Bruno began playing hockey at the age of twelve and in
spite of what is considered a late start in the sport, was
able to secure his first Junior level spot with the Boston
Junior Blackhawks last season. He was picked up by the
Rampage in November and has developed into a core piece of
the puzzle in the team's defensive zone. "I learned so
much," Bruno said "I wish I had come here a long time
ago." According to Bruno what he learned was how to be more
effective with less stick handling and playing the body
more. "Tony was very good at handling the puck and we didn't
want to take that away from him," Coach Thomas Billick says
"but there were other aspects of his game that we wanted to
bring out and he responded very well to our teaching."
Bruno's on ice performance was not the only thing that
impressed the Rampage staff. "Tony has a great work ethic
and that really reflected in his performance," General
Manager Julie Wilson says "but it's his character that
really won us over. Every once in a while you get a kid that
surprises you with his focus and his integrity, Tony is that
kid."
Bruno will travel back to Florida before returning to UCO
where he plans to major in kinesiology. "I'm very excited
for Tony and this accomplishment," Billick says "his hard
work and dedication to our program has paid off. I'm
really looking forward to seeing the success he has in
the future."
