Jason
was
granted his angel wings on May 1, 2009. He touched family and
friends in some small way throughout his short , yet very memorable
life. Jason's life would seem too short to many, but those who were
touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds
the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt
the hearts of those around him and though he never spoke a word, his
voice and thoughts could always be heard. Jason was filled with
passion, strength, perseverance, and led us to believe that each day
is a blessing and an opportunity to grow and contribute. He could
spend hours in the hockey arena practicing and working his
goaltending toward his dream of becoming a professional league
player. He also had a natural writing ability that he had hoped one
day would lead him toward a career in sports journalism. He enjoyed
travel, music, sleeping late, and reading stories. He loved
listening to the sounds of the ocean and especially laughter which
would make him smile.
He
spent many hours at the beach where he loved to watch the sunsets,
hanging out with his friends. In his short years, he was able to
study and learn through several school sponsored programs that
spanned four continents. With Jason's passing we remind
others that life is to be celebrated. Although we will miss him
everyday, especially his winning smile, he will forever remain in
our hearts. Through his teachings about life, we were able to create
wonderful memories and it has been a privilege to be his parents. We
are so thankful Jason's brother Jon had each other so he can
hold dear the memory of Jason's gentle spirit.
Jason leaves behind many wonderful friends that provided love
and support that enhanced his quality of life. Jason's love
extends to all of his wonderful hockey team. There is a special
place in our hearts for Jason's friends and there are so many we
can't name them all. Because of their continual dedication, love and
support, Jason was able to survive any of life's challenges.
He will be dearly missed by all his friends and family and all of
these special people, provided Jason with love and life.
Jason is survived by his loving parents, Bob and Donna Ritchie;
brother, Jon Ritchie and cousin Nicole; maternal grandfather, Ray
Chappelow; paternal grandfather, Craig Ritchie; paternal great
grandmother, Margaret Ritchie; aunts, Debbie, Kathy and Kim; uncle,
Terry and his significant other Dawn and many other family members.
Jason attended the Vermont Academy from 2001-2004 where he
furthered his knowledge and skills for his passion of playing
hockey.
Jason loved to play hockey and was an accomplished goalie. To
further his dream, we hope you will contribute to the Jason Ritchie
Memorial Hockey scholarship Fund for needy athletes.
