The El Paso Rhinos in their second season of operation have defeated the Phoenix Polar Bears in a clean sweep of the WHSL League Championship Tournament this past weekend (Mar 14-15). 
 
Both games were extremely exciting spectator events.  The play was fast and furious, with strong defense, good clean hitting, skilled offense with a couple of short handed goals to top off a great weekend of hockey.
 
The WHSL named an all tournament team made up of the following players:
 
Blake Barkwell       - Phoenix Polar Bears - Forward
Josh Laricchia        - Phoenix Polor Bears - Forward
Jordan Yhindophol - Phoenix Polar Bears - Defense
Zac Kohn                - El Paso Rhinos - Forward
Bill Kruegar            - El Paso Rhinos - Forward
Sean Molina           - El Paso Rhinos - Defense
Tad Norris               - El Paso Rhinos - Defense
Art Hollister             - El Paso Rhinos - Goaltender
 
Most Valuable Player
Eric LaBounty          - El Paso Rhinos - Forward
 
Both El Paso and Phoenix will both be headed to Marlborough MA to compete in the USA Junior Tier III - A National Championship event March 25-29.  The WSHL will be well represented by these two teams.

Former Bomber Player Mike Thomson 

 

My son Mike is playing hockey for SUNY Plattsburgh  (State University of New York) and they are in the NCAA final 4 at Lake Placid this weekend. If they win Saturday, the final game is televised on CSTV (college sports television). You’ll have to check for times if interested. He is a forward and wears #22. The entire 1980 Miracle on ice Olympic champion team is going to be totally reunited for the first time as part of the ceremonies. Should be pretty cool.

The Internet broadcasting of the Junior Nationals will be produced by www.fasthockey.com

 

They will provide live broadcast for the Semi and final Games.

 

All other games will be taped. In addition they will be set up to make DVD's of those games.
